View of Mezquita's campanero (bell tower) at night. Abd Al-Rahman III entrusted the architect Said Ibu Ayub to built the Great Mosque's minaret in 957. In 1589 it was repaired by Hernan Ruiz after storm damage, and in 1618 it was encased in several meters of re-enforcing stonework by his grandson Hernan Ruiz III. More major work was done on the belfry after damage from the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
