Photo by J. Entrenas - ©2005 One of the best views of the Mezquita is from across Guadalquivir river at night. Behind the buildings along Ribera street, notice the south wall of the Mosque. On the left is Al-Hakam II's expansion, with the cupolas above the Mihrab (then at the center of the back wall) and Villaviciosa chapel. The large cupola is the Cardinal's chapel. The right third of the building was Almanzor's final expansion, and in the background looms the 1523 cathedral and the belfry, topping the original minaret.
