Snow sticks in Cordoba for the 1st time in 30 Years

January 29, 2006: So far winter had been dry, leaving most of Spain's water supplies at dangerously low levels. But heavy to moderate rains arrived in the last week of January and, coinciding with a cold front pushing out of Russia, turned to snow. Although it was only a few centimetes, both children and adults were delighted with the uncommon spectacle. Snow hadn't fallen in the city of Cordoba for some 30 years. Article: Snow in Cordoba

Autumn arrives in Andalusia

October 12, 2005 (Columbus Day): On October 9, Cordoba had its first autumn rain, as thunderstorms rolled in from the Atlantic and temperatures cooled. When it rains in Cordoba, it really rains. This week in Cordoba and much of Spain, you'll want your travel umbrella and good shoes. Has the drought finally ended?

Sandals and short-sleeved shirts are about to be definitely put away for the winter. It can be warm and stuffy in the afternoon, but if you're caught outside in the morning without a jacket, you could catch a cold, or worse. It's the entretiempo ("between seasons") period in Cordoba, when you almost have to wear one thing in the morning and another in the evening. Now's the time for those seldom-used jackets that are too heavy for Cordoba's hot weather, and much too light for the winter.

Cordoba's transition from 90ºF to 70ºF weather, with lows dropping from 60ºF to below 50ºF, is brusque, usually in the span of 2-3 weeks.

2005 Weather in Cordoba

The weather in 2005 has been very dry. The winter was especially cold (the coldest in 30 years), reaching 0ºC on several clear mornings and affecting both crops and the flowers that make Cordoba's patio festival famous. June was one of the warmest in 50 years in terms of average minimum temperatures.
