New train service and motorway bring Cordoba and Malaga closer |
||
Cordoba Info |
(1 Mar 2008) In February RENFE initiated a new low-cost, high-speed train service between Cordoba and Malaga which is sure to have long-term effects on the two cities. With commuters in mind, the trip takes 1 hour and 55 minutes and only costs 19.05 euros. Cheaper than the high-speed AVE and faster than the conventional Talgo.
With this new train service, Cordobans will be able to travel to the Malaga coast for lunch and shopping, and pop back up to Cordoba for dinner; or even make convenient outings to the beach in the summer. Likewise, tourists on the Costa will be more tempted to make excursions into the interior to see more of Spain's cultural and historic heritage. By no small coincidence (it being close to elections), another stretch of the Cordoba-Malaga motorway was opened almost simultaneously, leaving only 10 kilometers of old highway along the 100-kilometer route from Antequera to Cordoba. Whereas before it took some 3 hours to drive from Cordoba to Malaga, it now takes little over 2 hours. |
